Approx. 3 inches including hook | 2 mm American linden wood | Lightweight | Hypoallergenic bronze-tone hooks | Laser-cut & engraved | Hand-painted | Single-piece construction | Double-sided | Linseed oil finish
Leaf Whispers plays a little trick on the eye.
At first glance, the leaves seem to overlap across the teardrop as if several small pieces had been layered together. But the entire earring is actually cut from one slim piece of 2 mm American linden wood.
The dimension comes from the details.
I laser-engrave the individual leaf shapes directly into the wooden surface, creating the veins, outlines, and boundaries that separate one leaf from another. Then I paint selected areas by hand in warm mustard, deep red, orange, and earthy brown.
Because the engraved lines remain visible between the colors, some leaves seem to sit forward while others recede behind them. The result has the visual depth of a layered design without adding extra wooden pieces or unnecessary bulk.
That is what I enjoy most about this pair: the surface looks much more complex than its construction actually is.
The design continues on both sides.
With a teardrop approximately 3 inches long, movement is inevitable—and I think it should be. When Leaf Whispers swings or turns, the engraved leaves and hand-painted colors remain visible instead of giving way to a plain unfinished back.
The single-piece construction also helps keep the earrings surprisingly light for their size. You get the long silhouette and detailed artwork of a statement earring without stacking heavier materials onto the design.
Hypoallergenic bronze-tone hooks provide a more comfortable option for ears that may be sensitive to some metals.
Once the painting is complete, I treat the wood with linseed oil to help protect the surface while preserving the natural grain, engraved marks, and warmth of the American linden wood.
Leaf Whispers was inspired by that moment when fallen leaves overlap naturally on the ground—different shapes and colors crossing over one another without anyone arranging them. Here, that little bit of disorder is recreated through engraving and paint on one simple piece of wood.
Outfit idea: Pair them with a deep navy or muted petrol-blue blouse, medium-wash denim, and warm brown accessories. The cooler blue gives the mustard, red, orange, and earthy brown leaves enough contrast to feel rich rather than overly autumnal. For a lighter look, try a soft cream top with chocolate-brown trousers.
Natural wood grain, engraved marks, dark laser-cut edges, and small variations in the hand-painted finish are part of the handmade character of each pair. Colors may appear slightly different depending on lighting and screen settings.
