Approx. 2.5 inches including hook | 2 mm American linden wood | Lightweight | Hypoallergenic bronze-tone hooks | Laser-cut & engraved | Hand-painted | Layered wooden butterflies | Double-sided | Linseed oil finish

Mariposa Serena began with a simple idea: what if the butterflies didn’t just appear on the earring, but seemed to have landed there?

I laser-cut the main shape from 2 mm American linden wood and engrave the details into the surface. Then I create the small butterflies separately.

Each tiny butterfly is its own wooden piece.

I paint them individually by hand in soft pink, fuchsia, and turquoise, then attach them carefully to the wooden base. Because they sit slightly above the surface instead of being painted flat onto it, they create real dimension, little shadows, and a subtle change in depth as the light moves across the earring.

That extra step is small, but it changes the entire feeling of the design.

The natural wood remains visible around the brighter colors, keeping the pair warm and organic rather than turning it into a completely painted surface. I like the contrast: delicate butterflies, vivid little touches of color, and enough exposed wood to remind you what the earrings were made from.

The design is finished on both sides.

That means when Mariposa Serena turns while you move, the earring doesn’t suddenly lose its character to a plain unfinished back. It continues to look considered from either direction.

At approximately 2.5 inches including the hook, the pair has enough size for the layered butterflies to be noticed without becoming oversized.

And although the raised wooden pieces create dimension, American linden keeps the earrings lightweight. You get the look of a detailed statement piece without depending on heavy metal or bulky materials to create that presence.

Hypoallergenic bronze-tone hooks offer a more comfortable option for ears that may be sensitive to some metals.

Once everything is painted and assembled, I treat the wood with linseed oil to help protect the surface while keeping the grain, engraved details, and handmade texture visible.

There is something I especially like about this pair: it feels cheerful without trying too hard. The butterflies give it movement and color, but the natural wood keeps it calm.

Maybe that is where the name Mariposa Serena fits best—a little color, a little freedom, and no need to be loud about either one.

Outfit idea: Pair them with a dusty teal or muted blue-green blouse, relaxed ecru trousers, and simple warm brown accessories. The cooler top complements the turquoise butterflies while giving the pink and fuchsia details enough contrast to stand out. For a softer look, try a pale blush top with medium-wash denim.

Natural wood grain, engraved marks, layered placement, and small variations in the hand-painted finish are part of the handmade character of each pair. Colors may appear slightly different depending on lighting and screen settings.

The Mariposa Serena Layered Butterfly Wooden Earrings – Hand-Painted & Lightweight is far and away, one of our most popular items. People can't seem to get enough of it.
